How I came to Acupuncture
During my training as a nurse I came to realise that the potential for healing was severely limited by our mechanistic view of the human-being.This view sees a person more like a machine to be repaired and does not truely consider the subtle interaction of body-mind and spirit in the process of health and dis-ease.
At university I had time to explore other avenues of thought and began to practice Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan. The experience of these practices showed me that the human-being is an energetic system integrally connected to nature. More than a machine we humans are like a garden that needs tending and nurturing for growth and health.
This attitude puts weight on caring for the body through exercise and diet, appropriate expression of emotions and the opportunity to unfold potential (ie nurture spirit). Chinese medicine embodies all these aspects and recognises that the link between these 3 aspects of ourselves- body, mind and spirit - has to do with energy. (Known as Qi/Chi in chinese).
As energetic beings we are an inseparable part of nature herself and thereby linked to every other being on the planet. Harming the planet or another human-being ultimately hurts ourselves. This holistic way of thinking addresses the cause of disease and is the path of true healing

Experiences that help me in my therapeutic work
Motherhood; bringing up 2 children has taught me flexibility , the importance of setting borders and the power of love.
Culture shock; learning to live in and understand a different culture helps me to realise my own values and traditions and understand the complex process of integration.
Yoga & Tai Chi showed me the potential we have as human-beings and how to unlock this potential.
Teaching gives me clarity and the opportunity to concretise my ideas
Patients, more than 30 years of practice have considerably deepened my understanding of relationships and given me invaluable experience and insights into the meaning of life.
